Ink stains are incredibly difficult to remove from fabric. It is not always possible to deal with this problem on your own, even if the stain is small. But what if the kids wanted to draw a little while lying on the carpet or the pen accidentally leaked? In this article, we will describe the most effective ways to remove ink from the carpet yourself.
But when the stain is really big, the carpet is expensive or made of natural materials, we recommend that you immediately go to a dry cleaner, without trying to clean it yourself, as you can accidentally ruin the carpet.
Alcohol
Alcohol is an indispensable tool if you need to remove ink from any surface: from furniture, clothes, wallpaper, from the carpet. But you need to clean it as quickly as possible and not wait until the stain dries or is absorbed.
- Moisten a cotton pad or napkin with alcohol.
- Gently wet the place of contamination. Do not rub under any circumstances. This will only smear the stain.
- Monitor the condition of the disc or napkin. Change to new ones when you see that they are already dirty.
- If the contamination has moved away, you can rinse the area with a cleaning solution at the end. To do this, mix 1 tsp. detergent and 1 cup of warm water. Wipe the surface with a sponge. After that, repeat the same procedure, only with clean water.
- Ventilate the carpet well.
Alcohol is excellent for removing not only ink stains, but also marks from a felt-tip pen. If there is no alcohol at hand, it can be replaced with hairspray, but you need to act very quickly, until the varnish has time to dry.
Glycerin
Another way to remove ink from the carpet without much effort is to lubricate the stain with glycerin. But it is necessary to start it if manipulations with alcohol did not help. In this case, skip the steps of washing with a soapy solution and start cleaning with glycerin:
- Apply the product to the stain.
- Blot the application area with paper towels to remove the glycerin. If necessary, repeat the procedure.
- When the trace lightens, it is necessary to wipe the surface with a soapy solution consisting of warm water, detergent and glycerin. Mix these components together and pour into a sprayer. Treat the area with the stain, alternately spraying with the product and blotting with paper towels.
- At the end, if the ink is still not wiped off, you can apply a few drops of ammonia to the dirt and also wipe it with a napkin.
Do not forget to dry the carpet thoroughly, as mold or fungus can grow there, not to mention the unpleasant smell that remains from the ammonia
- An emergency method that helps remove the most difficult impurities. Mix lemon juice with salt. Apply evenly to the dirty area. Leave for 10 minutes. With the help of clean water and a sponge, remove the mass from the mat.
- Vinegar will also help you. Dip a cotton pad or cloth napkin in 9% vinegar and wipe the area with traces of berries. Be sure to wash it off with clean water and a sponge.
- Mix vodka, ammonia and glycerin into a single solution, proportions 3:1:1. Treat the area with a cotton pad and leave for 30 minutes for the reaction. Wipe off the residue with paper towels or a cloth made from natural materials.
Be sure to do a test on an inconspicuous area before using these methods, as the products are quite aggressive and can greatly lighten your carpet. But still, we recommend contacting a dry cleaner. Our craftsmen know how to remove stains without damaging an expensive product.
Vinegar
If you ask the older generation “how to remove ink from the carpet?”, you will definitely be advised to use a vinegar solution. The procedure is just as simple:
- Clean the area where the ballpoint pen spilled with rubbing alcohol as indicated in the instructions above. Processing time is about 30 minutes. Do not pour alcohol on the pile, as it can discolor it.
- Mix a quarter of a cup of vinegar and a liter of water (proportions of approximately 1:16) and pour into a spray bottle.
- Spray the agent on the place with ink and immediately blot with a napkin. Repeat several times.
- Rinse the same area with clean water.
- Dry the carpet.
Vinegar can discolor your carpet, so we recommend doing a test on a small area first. But it is better not to bother with the question of how to wash the ink from the carpet, but simply send it to us for professional cleaning. Our craftsmen will deal with any stains in a couple of hours, and you won’t have to worry about keeping your favorite carpet.
